Pottery from North Africa and gold from Sudan passed from hand to hand, a land of trade criss-crossed for centuries by the great caravans that came to barter salt from the desert for millet from the savannah. Mauritania, which has only been open to tourism since 1997, is a fascinating country that is still little known and has countless riches to discover.
Kingdom of nomadism, Mauritania, where North African pottery and Sudanese gold passed from hand to hand, a land of exchanges criss-crossed for centuries by the large caravans that came to barter desert salt for savannah millet, Mauritania, open only to tourism since 1997, is a fascinating country still unknown and with countless riches to discover.
Mauritania is a country twice the size of France with only three million inhabitants. It is a country of desert, land of men, of Monod and Saint Exupéry. The modern world sought to increase its hold there without really tainting the identity of its people, based on the nomadic ideal: an eternal wandering in the great spaces of sand and wind. A legendary will to be free forged this people, which was never but touched by foreign domination.
We invite you to discover this Western Sahara where the landscapes are sumptuous but where the human presence is more important than in the central Sahara. You have to travel through this country to understand this people and what it means to cling to this land so beautiful but so arid.
We will do this in the form of a 4×4 discovery or camel trekking which will leave you with the memory of nights under the stars, but also of refreshing springs and green oases.
